Neomensularia

Neomensularia F. Wu, L.W. Zhou & Y.C. Dai 2016, in Wu et al., Mycologia, 108(5), 891-898 (2016)

Etymology: Neomensularia (L.): referring to its similarity to Mensularia.

Diagnosis: Basidiocarps annual, pileate, corky to hard corky. Pileal surface dark reddish brown to fuscous. Pore surface cinnamon-buff to dark brown. Context dark brown, duplex with a distinct black zone. Tube layer yellowish brown. Hyphal system dimitic; generative hyphae bearing simple septa; skeletal hyphae dominant. Hymenial setae hooked, thick-walled, dark brown. Basidiospores ellipsoid, golden yellow, thick-walled, smooth, IKI, CB–.

Notes: Neomensularia differs from other genera in the Hymenochaetaceae by imbricate basidiocarps with duplex context, dimitic hyphal structure, hooked hymenial setae and golden, thick-walled basidiospores.
