Endocronartium

Endocronartium Y. Hirats. 1969, in Hiratsuka, Canadian Journal of Botany, 47(9), 1493-1495 (1969).

Etymology: Endo- = within, with reference to the endo cycle; and Cronartium to which it is related.

Diagnosis: Spermogonia intercortical and growth indeterminate (type 9 of Hiratsuka and Cummins 1963). Telia aecioid with well-developed peridia, resembling the aecial state of Cronartium. Basidia external.

Type species: Endocronartium harknessii (J.P. Moore) Y. Hirats. 1969

Notes: Germ tubes of spores including material from the type locality (Christenson 1968; Hiratsuka and Maruyama 1968) indicate that the species has the pine-to-pine life cycle.
