Phragmoxenidium mycophilum

Phragmoxenidium mycophilum Oberw. & Schneller 1990, in Oberwinkler, Bauer & Schneller, Systematic and applied microbiology, 13(2), 186-191 (1990)

Diagnosis (In Latin): Carposoma nullum. Hyphae hyalinae, efibulatae, tenuitunicatae, tunicis levibus, 2-4 µm in diam. Cystidia hyphidiaque desunt. Basidia longa, mature transverse septata, 5-8 X 40-70 µm. Basidiosporae hyalinae, tenuitunicatae, tunicis levibus, non amyloideis, apiculis prominentibus, 5-7 X 9-11 µm, frequenter per repetitionem germin antes vel cellulas parvas, 1-2 µm in diam., germinando producunt.

Index Fungorum Number: IF354935

Figure 1, 2. Sections through fructifications of Uthatobasidium fusisporum, parasitized by Phragmoxenidium mycophilum with hyphae, basidia and basidiospores. U. fusisporum with broad hyphae, holobasidia and naviculate basidiospores, two germinating by repetition. Ph. mycophilum with small hyphae, transversely septate basidia and subglobose to ellipsoid basidiospores. Note tight attachments of host and parasite (arrows). Bars = 10 µm.

Figure 3, 4. Basidiospores of Phragmoxenidium mycophilum germinating with microconidia and secondary spores. Bars = 5 µm.
