Oliveonia

Oliveonia Donk 1958, in Roberts., Folia Cryptogamica Estonica, 33, 128-129 (1998)

Replaced synonym: Heteromyces L.S. Olive, American Journal of Botany. 44(5): 432 (1957)

Diagnosis: Teleomorph. Basidiome: effused, thin, ceraceous, greyish to white. Hymenium: dense, at least when young, comprising one or more layers of basidia, sometimes with scattered cystidia, arising from narrow, often agglutinated, subhymenial hyphae. Subicular or mycelial hyphae sometimes wider, closely adhering to the substratum. Hyphae: binucleate (where known), 1.5-3 µm diam. in the hymenium, thin-walled, often agglutinated, with or without clamp connexions; subicular hyphae sometimes wider, up to 5 µm diam., with slightly thickened walls. Septal pores: dolipores with continuous parenthesomes (Oberwinkler & Ryvarden, 1991). Cystidia: present or absent; when present, tubular, obtuse, up to 100 µm long with age, but more frequently 10-20 µm long and inconspicuous, thin-walled, hyaline, projecting with age. Basidia: ovoid to widely clavate (Q= 1.0-2.0), 5-14 x 4-10 µm, narrowly stalked. Sterigmata: 1-4, up to 10 µm long. Basidiospores: subglobose, ellipsoid, citriform, or oblong, producing secondary spores by replication.

Anamorph. One species (O. pauxilla) has been found to have a rhizoctonia anamorph which produces monilioid hyphal compartments in culture. This anamorph is referred to Oliveorhiza.
