Schizocorticium magnosporum
Schizocorticium magnosporum Sheng H. Wu & C.L. Wei 2021, in Wu et al., Mycological Progress, 20, 769-779 (2021)
Etymology: From magno (= large) + sporum, referring to the large-sized basidiospores of this species.
Diagnosis: Basidiomes resupinate, effused, adnate, membranaceous, 100–180 (–240) μm thick in section. Hymenial surface buff, cream or white, smooth, more or less cracked; margin paler or concolorous, thinning, pruinose, or determinate. Hyphal system monomitic; hyphae nodose-septate. Subiculum bi-layered. Basal layer with dense to compact texture, occasionally indistinct, variable in thickness, up to 40 μm thick; hyphae horizontal, colorless, somewhat agglutinated, fairly straight, moderately ramified, 2–4 μm diam, slightly to thick-walled, with up to 1 μm thick, usually with tiny oily drops. Medullary layer with somewhat loose to slightly dense texture, variable in thickness, up to 100 μm thick; hyphae interwoven, colorless, not agglutinated, moderately ramified, 2–4 μm diam, slightly to thick-walled, with up to 1 μm thick, usually with tiny oily drops. Hymenial layer thickening, with fairly dense texture, 60–120 μm thick, usually stratified, up to 3 layers; hyphae more or less vertical, colorless, irregularly swollen or not, 2–5 μm diam, thin- to slightly thick-walled, more or less with thick walls near subiculum, with up to 1 μm thick, usually with tiny oily drops. Oily material scattered throughout subiculum and hymenial layer, usually abundant in deep subiculum. Crystals absent or rarely present in the section. Cystidia lacking. Hyphidia numerous, not branched or rarely branched, with thin to thickened walls, 20–45 × 3–5.5 μm. Basidia clavate to narrowly clavate, occasionally with stalk base, sometimes with a median constriction, rarely laterally branched, sometimes with tiny oily drops, (20–) 27–45 (–50) × (6.5–) 7–8.5 μm, with four fairly stout and rigid sterigmata. Basidiospores narrowly ellipsoid to subcylindrical, adaxially slightly concave or flattened, smooth, thin-walled, with homogenous contents or guttulate, IKI-, CB-, generally 9.8–11.5 × 4.2–5.5 μm.
